Topic: Challenges and Solutions - Managing (GIS) Records
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are a straegic investment for various industries including oil and gas, utilities, and government agencies. The purpose of this session is to present two perspectives on the management of GIS assets or map records-records management and information technology. The session will begin with a review of the various types of GIS assets and their characteristics. An exercise/case study will engage participants in identifying the challenges in managing GIS data assets. The session will conclude with a discussion of possible solutions to the challenges, including retention requirements and systems applications.
