Care Bear Program
For the past few years, the San Antonio Chapter of ARMA has supported the San Antonio Police Department’s CARE BEAR program for abused children at its Christmas luncheon.
While greatly appreciated by the SAPD, the bears donated are only a fraction of the total number needed. According to Lt. Cozette Fogus, SAPD Director of the Sex Crimes & Family Violence unit, the unit temporarily cares for approximately 100 children each month. Giving a child who has been the victim of abuse a little stuffed bear helps greatly to relieve the trauma each child experiences. Lt. Fogus says, “...the look of joy on the face of a child upon receiving a bear clearly demonstrates the value of the program.”
The Chapter Board has decided to expand our support of the CARE BEAR program from Christmas luncheon effort into one that expands the entire year. The Chapter’s CARE BEAR project leader will accept donations at each chapter meeting and recognize donors in each month’s newsletter, unless a donor prefers to remain anonymous.
If you are not able to attend a meeting, or would simply like to help the effort, please contact us and a chapter member will make arrangements to pick up the donated bears... or any stuffed animal.
